Transform your teeth: Cosmetic Dentistry at Sydney Dental Surgeons

‘Smile and the whole world smiles with you’

The professional team at Sydney Dental Surgeons offer a range of cosmetic dentistry treatments to help restore the appearance and function of your teeth.

We offer teeth whitening, bonding, porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges and implants among our cosmetic dentistry services as well as orthodontics including Invisalign and Cfast.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth can become stained and discoloured for a number of reasons including ageing, smoking, trauma damage, food and drink and the effects of certain medications.

If you’re looking for a solution that improves your smile by lightening the existing shade of your natural teeth, Sydney Dental Surgeons offers both in-surgery and at-home whitening treatments which will fit even a busy lifestyle. Bleaching works at removing yellow colours and is least effective with the type of purple colouring that is seen with tetracycline staining.

It is advisable to have the teeth professionally cleaned by our hygienist prior to the bleaching appointment so the active agents used can properly penetrate the clean tooth surfaces.

If you are considering cosmetic work it is best to bleach before replacing old restorations or making new crowns and veneers.

With in-surgery dental teeth whitening , a peroxide-based gel is applied to your teeth, with a rubber coating protecting your gums while a laser light 'activates' the gel. This procedure is carried four times over a two hour period and this approach is far more successful than home bleaching alone

We take moulds of your teeth and have custom plastic bleaching trays made by our technician for you to use at home as a top-up at a later date. With a normal diet of coffee, tea, red wine etc stain and discolouration will recur and it is probably advisable to top-up after about 6 months. We provide one package of gel which you place in the trays and wear at night or for a couple of hours per day, and you can purchase more as you need it. The advantage of this approach is that you probably will not need to repeat the in-surgery whitening procedure.

Bonding

Bonding is a cost-effective immediate solution to chipped, cracked and discoloured teeth, where tooth-coloured material (composite) is applied and hardened with a special light.

This bonding treatment is used for fillings, but also can also reshape misaligned teeth, close gaps and provide a straighter set of teeth.

Your dentist will thoroughly clean the affected area and prepare the tooth with a phosphoric-acid-based gel, then apply a bonding agent to the surface and set using a beam of UV light.
The composite is then applied through layering, set at each stage with UV light. This process will continue until your dentist reaches the desired shape. Finally, the tooth is smoothed and polished.

The results are generally achieved in one visit and are very cost-effective but will have only an intermediate life, requiring replacement after a few years.

Porcelain Veneers

These thin porcelain covers made by our ceramist are a popular option for improving the front teeth, changing the shape, position, colour and length of the teeth.

Porcelain Veneers are favoured for their natural look, with this treatment involving some surface removal of the front of the teeth and impressions being taken before being sent to the laboratory. Each veneer is individually made and then cemented onto the teeth by light- cured bonding techniques.

Crowns , bridges and implants

Crowns or caps cover the whole tooth and act as to support teeth weakened by large restorations, teeth worn down by grinding or erosion and following root canal treatment.
In all cases the tooth is prepared to allow room for the crown material, whether it be porcelain, gold or a combination of both. Crowns can provide both function and aesthetics in all areas of the mouth and should last 10-20 years.

Traditionally impressions are taken and the crown prepared in the dental laboratory. This normally takes two weeks and a temporary crown is placed for the intervening period. The cementing of the crown is usually quick and painless and normally requires no anaesthetic.

Where a space exists due to extraction, a bridge may be constructed to replace the missing tooth. Crowns are constructed on the teeth on either side of the space and they are joined by a crown replicating the lost tooth.

Today a missing tooth is more often replaced with a single implant on which a crown is fixed, restoring the mouth to its original status. If there are no teeth at all full dentures can now be replaced with permanent implant supported bridges. The ability to smile and eat properly again for denture patients is a huge boost to their quality of life.

Invisalign

This orthodontic treatment provides an alternative to traditional metal braces, providing those wishing to fix their tooth alignment or bite problems, with a convenient, self-managed option.

Invisalign involves the use of removable 'aligners', with each set changed every two weeks to push teeth into the desired, final position.

This removable device allows patients to take optimal care of their teeth and unlike traditional orthodontics does not impinge on appearance or lifestyle. .
